VARIABLE STEP SIZE MPPT ALGORITHM BASED ON P&O Abstract: To reach the highest efficiency from photovoltaic (PV) systems, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique is commonly applied under all operating conditions. Meanwhile, the peak power obtained from the solar photovoltaic system changes due to environmental conditions. One of the most widely used classical methods is the perturbation and observation (P&O) algorithm. However, the step size of duty cycle is still a concern when both of increase performance and shortening the convergence rate of the solution. In this paper, a comparative study between the P&O algorithm with the adjusted step size compared to the conventional P&O solution is presented. The proposed solution shows outstanding advantages in MPPT speed based on the ability to flexibly adjust the step size. Keywords: Photovoltaic system, P&O algorithm, variable step size |
