ABSTRACT Friction stir welding (FSW) is a solid-state joining process and is widely used in many industries because it is efficient, low cost, and environmentally friendly. Boron steel is a lightweight material but high-strength steel with a tensile strength of up to 1500MPa. In fact, it is also used in the automotive and aerospace industries due to the lightweight, high bearing, and energy-saving capacity when manufacturing the shell frame texture. In this research, the butt-joint boron steel of 1mm thickness was welded successfully by the friction stir welding process. The microstructure and basic mechanical properties of the welding were investigated by different methods. The results of the research showed that we can use friction stir welding to weld boron steel without heating before welds and this method can change the structure of boron steel at welding areas.
