In order to evaluate the possibility of producing raw material of Oriental tobacco in Vietnam, the Basma 16, Hanski 227 tobacco varieties originating from Bulgaria were experimental growing in Dak Lak in the 2021 crop season. When grown on two levels of fertilizer of 30 and 40 kg N/ha both two varieties showed good growth and had low disease infection. The mentioned above shows that the soil and climate conditions here are quite suitable for the development of Oriental tobacco. Both two varieties have dry leaf yield of over 1.57 tons/ha and a high percentage of level 1+2 leaves, over 75%. The sample of raw materials has quite attractive properties with a good aroma and is typical for Oriental tobacco. The variety Hanski 227 shows promise for production of Oriental tobacco in Dak Lak when the leaf yield is quite high (1.82 tons/ha); the percentage of leaves in good grades 1+2 as high more than 85.5%, the material has a characteristic aroma, good suction properties and the highest total suction point.
